What we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how to get it back or have it deleted.
Private Chef Finder is a directory of independent private chefs for people planning a dinner party or celebration at home, and publishes a blog about private dining and food. This policy explains, in plain English, what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what your rights are under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Who we are
This website is operated by Lunar Links Digital Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 15662799, registered office: 3rd Floor, 45 Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London W1S 4JL, United Kingdom, trading as Private Chef Finder. We are the "controller" of the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it's used. For anything in this policy, including requests about your information, email james@privatecheffinder.co.uk.
What we collect
Contacting a chef. When you press a button to see a chef's phone number, email address or website, we record which chef, which detail, the page you were on and the time, and we count profile views. We don't record your name or contact details, and we don't see what you say to the chef afterwards.
Past enquiries. We used to take enquiries through a form on this site. We no longer do, but we keep the enquiries already sent to us for the period below. They include the name, email address, phone number if given, event details, budget range, dietary requirements and anything else the person told us. Dietary requirements can reveal health information (such as an allergy) or religious belief.
Chef applications. When a chef applies we collect their name, trading name, contact details, location, service areas, travel radius, experience, qualifications, cuisines, event types, guest numbers, indicative pricing, website and social profiles, which contact details they agree to show on their profile, and any files they upload (portfolio images and sample menus). A chef's phone number, email address or website appears on their profile only if the chef has agreed.
Reviews. If you review a chef, we collect your star rating, your comments, the name you'd like shown, your email address, and the occasion, month and town or area of your event. We send your rating, comments, display name and event details to the chef so they can confirm you booked them. We don't send the chef your email address; we use it only to contact you about your review if we need to. Once published, your rating, comments, display name, occasion and month are shown on the chef's profile. Your email address is never shown.
Messages. If you email us, we keep the message and our reply.
Website statistics. When you visit, our website platform records the page you're on, the page you came from and any campaign tags in the link, and how long the visit lasts, grouped by a random session identifier stored in your browser. You can turn this off at any time from the notice at the foot of every page. See our cookie policy for the details.
Technical information. Like any website, the servers that deliver our pages receive your IP address and basic browser information so they can send the page to you and keep the service secure.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| What we do | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Show chefs' contact details, and count profile views and contact reveals | To run the directory and tell chefs how their profile is doing | Legitimate interests, and the chef's agreement to show their details |
| Send your review to the chef to confirm the booking, then publish it | So other people can choose a chef with confidence | Your consent, given when you submit the review, which you can withdraw by asking us to remove it |
| Keep and answer enquiries sent to us before we became a directory | To deal with requests people have already made | Legitimate interests, and explicit consent for any dietary information given at the time |
| Assess chef applications and manage listings | To build an honest directory | Legitimate interests, and steps taken at the chef's request |
| Email you new blog posts or news | Only if you've ticked the box | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Website statistics | To understand which pages are useful | Legitimate interests, with a simple way to turn it off |
| Keep records, prevent misuse and meet legal duties | To run a lawful, secure business | Legal obligation and legitimate interests |
Who we share it with
Chefs. We share your review and event details with the chef you reviewed, as described above, so they can confirm the booking. We no longer take enquiries, but an enquiry sent to us before that may still be passed to the chef it was meant for, as this policy said at the time. When you contact a chef directly, the chef is responsible for how they use your details as an independent controller.
Service providers. We use trusted providers to host the website and its database, deliver email and run our website statistics. Our website platform is Base44, part of Wix.com. These providers process information only on our instructions and under contract.
Others. We'll share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety.
We do not sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of our service providers may store or process information outside the UK, for example in the European Economic Area, Israel or the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by UK adequacy regulations or by safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. Email us if you'd like more detail.
How long we keep it
- Past enquiries: for 24 months after our last contact with you, and then deleted.
- Profile view and contact reveal counts: for 24 months.
- Chef applications: for 12 months if a chef isn't listed; for as long as a chef is listed and 24 months afterwards if they are.
- Reviews: for as long as the chef is listed. Ask us at any time and we'll remove yours.
- Marketing preferences: until you unsubscribe, then kept only as a record that you've opted out.
- Website statistics: kept in aggregate. The session identifier stays in your browser until you clear it or turn statistics off.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict how we use it, to object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. You can object to direct marketing at any time, and where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time.
Email james@privatecheffinder.co.uk and we'll respond within one month. We may need to confirm who you are first.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Who our service is for
Our directory is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

If we change this policy we'll update it here and, where the change is significant, say so on the site. This policy was last updated on 27 October 2026.
